Papa Oro's
The region's only Filipino family restaurant deserved better than an English template. Two brand systems, seven pages, and the wow effect on the plate.
Given
A website that answered none of the three questions every guest asks.
What do you cook, where are you, why you? The old English-language template had no answer to any of it. Whoever googled "Restaurant Baden" found the competition.
- /aOpening hours: nowhere. The most-searched piece of restaurant information simply did not exist.
- /bThe menu: 21 large JPEG scans, barely readable on a phone. Page weight over 10 MB.
- /cLocal search ran on empty: no structured data, a seven-word meta description, 48 blank alt texts.
- /dThe German version was an unchecked machine translation: the dessert category was called «Wüste» (the desert, not the dessert), and the family's own coffee brand Kape Hiraya became «Kap Hiraya».
- /eKape Hiraya itself did not appear on the website at all.
Proof
Salo-salo: eating together. The identity is built around the set table: rice white as the ground, deep ube violet as the voice, mango and adobo for the appetite. No bamboo ornament, no red-and-gold. The only Filipino family restaurant in the region needs no costume; the differentiation is real, so the brand can stay calm.
/02
Content beats mechanics.
The first drafts chased scroll signatures: a turning plate, scrubbed video, pinned scenes. Rendered and judged, they all failed the same test. They felt like effects. I cut them and moved the boldness budget into content: a bespoke dish series, art-directed through a single visual system, so six hero dishes read like one photo shoot. The wow effect belongs on the plate.
The story, told in the guests' language: German first, English mirror prepared.

What the Astro build ships, page by page
An Astro static build: seven pages from one BaseLayout and one token source, shipped as plain HTML and CSS with no framework runtime in the browser. The complete CHF menu as structured HTML. Reservation and take-out in two clicks per location through GloriaFood. Six Schema.org entities, canonical, sitemap, images as WebP. Every page under the 1.5 MB budget, the homepage at 1.5 MB including all 18 dish images; the old site weighed more than 10 per page.
From 21 JPEG scans to a menu you can actually read on the tram.
Q.E.D.
- /01Every page under 1.5 MB, homepage included with all 18 dish images. The old site: over 10 MB per page.
- /02From zero to complete: menu in CHF, hours and phone per location, story, catering funnel, legal pages.
- /03Six Schema.org entities for local search, up from none.
- /04Two brand systems, seven pages, handed over whole. The family can launch without me.
